Argentine and South American title holders debuted with 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 26-24) victory over Peruvian representative Club Peerless Lima (joined the tournament after winning 12th national title) in Pool A, in one hour and seven minutes. Santiago Álvarez from UPCN and Luis Soto from Peerless shared top scorers title with 13 points each.
Another Argentine team, Personal Bolívar, was free on opening day since Pool A consists of three clubs.
In Pool B, Brazilian duo was on a high level by both scoring a straight-set win.
The hosts Funvic/Taubaté calmly beat the San Martín Cochabamba, Bolivia’s runners-up 3-0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-10) in only 51 minutes. The leading scorer for the locals was Ricardo Gomes with 11 points.
In the closing match of Day 1, world champions Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei defeated Club Atlético Bohemios Montevideo from Uruguay 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-8). Alan Souza scored 13 points for Brazilian side.
The winners of the South American Club Champs will secure their spot at the 2016 World Club Championship.
