The top-seed Cruzeiro scored another straight-set win (partially 25-23, 25-22, 25-19) against No.8 Canoas to clinch the Superliga 2017/2018 playoff quarterfinals series with a sweep, 2-0.
Yoandy Leal topped Cruzeiro with 13 points, while Filipe Ferraz made 78% reception (18 digs, 2 errors, 56% excellent). Aboubacar Neto „Abouba“ delivered 17 points (7 aces!) for Canoas.
In the best-of-five playoff semifinals, Cruzeiro will face the winners of No.4 EMS Taubaté Funvic vs. No.5 Minas Tênis Clube (1-0).
The third-seed Sesi-SP closed the series against No.6 Corinthians-Guarulhos as they prevailed in a full of tensions Game 2 in three sets, partially 30-28, 25-22, 25-23.
Just like in Game 1, the referee had to calm down the situation on the court by giving a red card. And not one. At 17-17 in the second set, several players on both sides started a trash-talk through the net. Prior to this, Sesi players complained to the referees because they missed calling a center line violation of Luiz Sene „Luizinho“. Exactly Luizinho from Corinthians and Murilo Endres from Sesi were red-carded for arguing. You will not see so often that two opposing players get a red card in a single game. The score was 18-18 after this.
Alan Souza topped Sesi with 24 points and 77% attack (23/30, 1 error, blocked once). Rodrigo Nascimento „Rivaldo“ scored 19 points for Corinthians. Sérgio Dutra „Serginho“ made 73% reception (11 digs, 64% excellent).
Sesi will play No.2 Sesc-RJ in the semifinals.
