Final Four hosts Croatia scored a five-set victory over Austria on the road in Innsbruck, in Pool B of the 2019 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Golden League, after coming back from 0-2 to 3-2. Partially, it was 24-26, 26-28, 25-19, 26-24, 15-13. On a day when they learned that their former head coach died in a car accident, Croatian ladies managed to gather strength and prevail over Austria mostly thanks to an 18-year-old middle blocker Božana Butigan who set up as much as 9 kill blocks! She scored 19 points in total but was not Croatia’s best scorer as Karla Klarić tallied 21 points. Nikolina Maroš scored 24 points for Austria.
Another tie-break was played on Day 2 of the tournament. Belarus downed Azerbaijan by a 25-13, 21-25, 25-10, 26-28, 19-17, in Pool C, at home in Minsk. Nadzeya Stoliar notched 17 points for Belarus, while Tatsiana Markevich contributed to the win with 5 aces. Anastasiya Bezsonova was the most efficient player in Azerbaijan with 15 points.
