Belgium, competing in the 2019 European Golden League without many key players like Sam Deroo, François Lecat, Simon Van De Voorde and many more, were two sets down against Slovakia at home in Brussels, in Pool A, before they made a comeback to win the game, partially 14-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, and 15-13. Besides having several youngsters in the roster, Belgium had a head coach who made his debut on the national team bench – Brecht Van Kerckhove. The outside hitter, who turned 22 yesterday, Lou Kindt top-scored for the “Red Dragons“ with 29 points. Igor Oskar Grobelny made 80% positive reception (25 digs, 2 errors, 28% excellent), while an 18-year-old setter Seppe Van Hoyweghen served 4 aces. In Slovakia, Filip Gavenda noted 20 points.
In the same pool, Turkey swept Latvia by a 3-0 on home soil, in the city of Sivas, thanks to 14 points from Adis Lagumdžija. Çağatay Durmaz set up 6 kill blocks, while Burutay Subaşı served 4 aces. Reinis Pekmans and Atvars Ozoliņš scored 9 apiece for the losing side.
At home ground in Minsk, Belarus opened their 2019 European Golden League campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic in Pool C, partially 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, and 27-25. Radzivon Miskevich was the best scorer for Belarus with 21 points. Michal Finger scored 22 for the losing side.
