Serbia National Team beat Bulgaria by a 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16) on Day 3 of the 2019 EuroVolley to keep a perfect record in the tournament (2-0) and settle at the top spot in the pool ahead of the continuation of the tournament.
In Ankara (Turkey), the reigning champions had to work hard to beat winless Balkan rivals but thanks to Brankica Mihajlović, who scored 24 points, and Teodora Pušić, who made 74% positive reception, they emerged victoriously. Nasya Dimitrova scored 18 points (85% positive reception, 70% excellent attack) for Bulgaria.
The National Team of Greece made a miraculous comeback in the first set against Finland to come close to advancing to the Top 16. Greece trailed by a 19-23 in the opening set before making a 7-1 run to take the 1-0 lead.
The Mediterranean nation won the match by a 3-1 with Anthi Vasilantonaki (27) and Olga Strantzali (22) earning 49 of the total of 59 points in the attack of their team. Salla Karhu scored 18 points (4 aces) for Finland, while Krista Michaela Bjerregård Madsen set up 5 kill blocks.
POOL C
In the replay of the previous EuroVolley semifinals, the Netherlands wrote down their second victory as they swept Azerbaijan in Budapest (Hungary) by a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-23).The Dutch National Team coach Jamie Morrison has changed the most of the line-up compared to the opening match against Romania, leaving only Beliën and Buijs as starters.
Lonneke Slöetjes top-scored for “Oranje” with 18 points, while Yvon Beliën made for kill blocks. Odina Aliyeva scored 13 for Azerbaijan.
Estonia said goodbye to the Top 16 as they suffered third defeat in as many matches – Romania celebrated a 3-1 win against them.
Estonia’s Nette Peit (her sister Eliisa also competes for Finland at the EuroVolley) was unstoppable with 31 points, while Liis Kullerkann made as much as 8 kill blocks but it was not enough for the national team from the Baltics to record a win. On the other side, Adelina Budăi-Ungureanu poured in 25 points.
