Italy (No.1 in Pool B) will play the quarter-finals of the 2019 EuroVolley after beating on of the four co-hosts Slovakia (No.3 in Pool D) in front of their crowd in Bratislava.
Italy swept rivals in straight sets, while more than 6,000 fans at the ice hockey hall Ondrej Nepela Arena (the new record in the hall when it comes to Volleyball matches) saw their team being close to “Azzurrine“ only in the second set (23-22).
Paola Egonu was Italy’s top scorer, as usual, but with an atypically poor attack success rate of 33% (11/33; 8 errors). She scored 17 points, including 4 aces. In Slovakia, Mária Kostelanská scored 10 points.
Germany National Team, who has a perfect record in the tournament so far (No.1 in Pool D), is in the quarter-finals after a smooth victory over Slovenia (No.4 in Pool B) in Łódź (Poland).
After overcoming initial nervousness, the team coached by Felix Koslowski came superior into the game and showed all of its potentials, especially in the block (14 kill blocks). It was most visible in the second set, which “Butterflies“ opened with a 6-0 lead.
Germany’s duo Louisa Lippmann and Jennifer Geerties shared the title of the top scorer of the match with 15 points. The latter recorded 4 kill blocks, just as her teammate Marie Schölzel. The backup opposite hitter Darja Eržen was Slovenia’s most prolific player with 12 points although she played only one set and a half.
