A match of the day, as it turned out, actually was Turkey - Croatia at the European Championship.

Turkey

Turkey

Giovanni Guidetti’s side barely managed to defeat Croatia in the five set thriller game, 3-2 (26-24, 18-25, 31-33, 25-22, 16-14). The Croatian girls had one of the best displays over the past few years but unfortunately for their fans they didn’t manage to win it.

However, they are on a good way to create a generation for the future challenges. Even though Turkey lost the third set after 64 rallies, they showed a strong character, winning the last two sets and advancing to the quarterfinals

Samanta Fabris had an outstanding display, the best so far at EuroVolley considering all players, scoring 39 points for Croatia. On the other side, Eda Erdem had 26, Meliha Ismailoglu added 13 and Kubra Caliskan 10.

Bulgaria - Azerbaijan

Bulgaria – Azerbaijan

The Bulgarian girls are playing better and better. They have defeated Azerbaijan in three sets to reach the quarterfinals.

Nasya Dimitrova led the Bulgarian team to the win with 14 points, while Gergana Dimitrova added 12 and Vasileva 11.

On the other side, Polina Rahimova ended the game with 12 points.

Poland

Poland

Poland were the last national team to grab the spot in the quarterfinals of the European Championship. They didn’t have any difficulties against the Spanish girls at the home court in Lodz: 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-19).

Magdalena Stysiak and Malwina Smarzek were the top scorers in Poland, finishing the game with 12 points each.

Ana Escamilla was in the mood for Spain, scoring 17 points.
