The Swiss side Volley Lugano nearly spoiled everything good that they did in the first leg of the Qualification Round of the Challenge Cup in which they swept LP-Vampula Huittinen from Finland by a 3-0. In the rematch on the road, Lugano lost in four sets to inspired Vampula: 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17). So, the Golden Set had to decide on which of these two will progress to the knockout stage and it was Lugano: 18-16.
Canadian outside hitter Caroline Livingston, who is playing her first professional season after coming from Queen’s University where she competed for the volleyball team named the Gaels, scored 23 points for the ultimate winners. Serbian Aleksandra Cvetićanin poured in 31 points for Vampula.
Lugano joined Greek Olympiacos Piraeus, Slovenian SIM Šempeter and Turkish THY Istanbul, who also progressed to the 16th Finals through the Qualification Round.
