CL W: Haak leads VakıfBank to grand comeback in Kaliningrad, Novara down ŁKS in tie-break

VakıfBank Istanbul celebrated a jubilee in the CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League with a thrilling win.

Turkish titleholders VakıfBank Istanbul came back from 0-2 to 3-2 against Russian runners-up Lokomotiv Kaliningrad region on the road in Round 3 (Pool B) of the 2020 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League. Thus, the team coached by Giovanni Guidetti had a successful celebration of their 200th match in the competition (145th win). The four-time Champions League winners were led by the Swede Isabelle Haak who poured in 35 points, including 5 of the team’s 19 kill blocks. As for Lokomotiv, Cuban Ana Cleger scored 19 points. The match lasted for as many as two hours and 11 minutes.

Interestingly, the defending champions Igor Gorgonzola Novara left Polish titleholders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź on single digits in one of the sets in Pool C encounter but still had to resolve the match in the tie-break.

World champions Antonio Carraro Imoco Conegliano and French champions RC Cannes became the first two teams that recorded all three wins in the competition.
