After an unexpected defeat from the Belgian side VC Greenyard Maaseik, a week ago, Zenit Kazan defeated the Turkish Halkbank Ankara with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22) in the third round of the competition (Pool C).

Maksim Mikhailov was Zenit’s most productive player in the match, scoring 26 points. Artem Volvich and Aleksandr Butko made five kill blocks apiece. Metin Toy tallied 18 points for not-so-powerful Halkbank this season.

This match was the last in the series of matches of Zenit away from home. In the last three weeks, the Kazan team firstly competed at the FIVB Club World Championship in Brazil. After that, they returned to Europe, facing Maaseik in the Champions League and then ASK in Nizhny Novgorod in the Russian League. The road trip is over with today’s encounter in Turkey.
