Due to the lack of information by the CEV, media across Europe tried to enlist clubs that will participate in the next edition of the Champions League. Compared to the list that CEV published today, there aren’t many differences. However, the governing body of European volleyball disclosed the names of all clubs, including those that will play in the qualifications (the First and Second round).
All in all, 65 teams – 36 men’s and 29 women’s – have won the right to participate in the 2021 edition of the Champions League. For those who weren’t acquainted with this, the CEV Board of Administration approved exceptional measures for the Champions League, allowing some national federations to register one extra club in accordance with the European Ranking List. This caused a commotion among potential German men’s representatives. Also, France’s Tours VB have signed up to compete but their participation is doubtful.
In the men’s competition, 18 teams have earned automatic berths to the Fourth Round (pool stage), while another 18 will start their journey in qualifications. The First Round will be played in six pools of three teams, and each club will organize one tournament on home soil. The winners of each pool will progress to the next round, in which six teams are to be divided into two pools of three clubs each. Again, each team will organize a tournament at home. The pool winners will progress to the Fourth Round.
In the women’s competition, 17 of the 18 slots available for teams that are to be seeded directly to the Fourth Round are occupied, while three more will progress to there from the qualifications (First Round and Second Round) in which 12 clubs will participate through the home and away clashes. The biggest surprise is the absence of the runners-up in 2018, Romania’s CS Volei Alba-Blaj, who was supposed to earn an automatic ticket for the pool stage but aren’t enlisted as contestants! Finland will be represented by LP Salo (not Pölkky Kuusamo, as initially announced), while VK UP Olomouc will represent Czech Republic (the prediction said it was to be VK Šelmy Brno).
The draw for both the men’s and women’s Champions League will take place on August 21, while the competition will set off on September 22-24.

Hahahhahahahah. There are no pre-seeded teams, so we can as well as get Trentino, Dynamo and Jastrzebski in one group in the first round with only one getting out of it. Nice idea
