Two of the four participants of the 3rd qualifying round of the 2023 CEV Men’s Volleyball Champions League are determined after the matches in Romania and Portugal today.
The Golden Set in Romania sent Bulgaria’s Hebar Pazardzhik to the 3rd qualifying round of the CEV Champions League Volley 2023 | Men. The players commanded by a renowned Italian expert, Camillo Placì, defeated the home side of C.S. Arcada Galați 3-1 in the rematch of the 2nd round of qualifications, following a straight-set defeat at home. Thus, the additional set has to resolve things in Romania. Hebar took it with a score of 15-10 to eliminate Arcada.
Todor Aleksiev top-scored for Hebar with 27 points. The Italian, Jacopo Massari, served 4 aces, while Nikolay Nikolov made 4 blocks. The German, Daniel Malescha, scored 15 points for Arcada. In the next round of the most prestigious club competition in Europe, the champions of Bulgaria will face either Croatia’s Mladost Zagreb or Switzerland’s Lindaren Volley Amriswil (the latter won the first leg by 3-1).
Portugal’s Sport Lisboa e Benfica are closer to the group stage of the Champions League. At home in Lisbon, ’The Eagles’ prevailed against the Dutch side of Dynamo Apeldoorn by 3-0 (31-29, 25-16, 25-21) in the 2nd leg of the 2nd round of the qualification. Given they were successful on the road 3-1, Benfica scheduled a duel in the last qualifying round against the better team from a faceoff between Finland’s Ford Levoranta Sastamala and Austria’s SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, who won the first leg 3-2.
The Brazilian, Pablo Nathan Ventura ’Pablo Ventura’, top-scored for Benfica with 11 points. His compatriot, Lucas França Santos, made 4 blocks.
