CL W: Even without Bošković, Eczacıbaşı too strong for Chemik in Round 3 derby; ŁKS leave Fenerbahçe empty-handed

Eczacıbaşı Dynavit İstanbul remained undefeated in Pool E of the 2023 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League after three rounds and a big match against Grupa Azoty Chemik Police.

Chemik players didn’t score in Istanbul, but they were the first in the CEV Champions League Volleyball 2023 | Women to take a set from Eczacıbaşı. The Turkish side has remained undefeated both in competitions in Turkey and beyond since the beginning of the season. The Polish champions had a great start to Poole E’s match within Round 3 against a team commanded by their former coach Ferhat Akbaş, who didn’t employ his best player, Serb Tijana Bošković, today. But after taking the opening set, Chemik fell to the rival’s blocking display, who as a team recorded 17 stuffs, five of which were from Trinidadian and Tobagonian Sinead Jack. Croatian Samanta Fabris, who replaced Bošković in the line-up, scored 19 points for Eczacıbaşı. Simge Şebnem Aköz had 71% reception (14 digs, 2 errors, 29% excellent). Serb Jovana Brakočević-Canzian tallied 19 points for Chemik. Katarzyna Połeć set up five blocks.

ŁKS Commercecon Łódź took an important step toward reaching the Champions League knockout stage. They defeated Fenerbahçe Opet İstanbul 3-1 in Pool D. The current vice-champions of Turkey, one of the biggest favorites to lift the trophy, already experienced their second setback in three matches in the competition. On the other hand, the Polish side confirmed a highly notable form, as they are undefeated in the domestic league after 10 games there. At the moment, they are undefeated in the CL too. Italian Valentina Diouf top-scored for ŁKS with 17 points. Klaudia Alagierska recorded five blocks, while Paulina Maj-Erwardt had 86% reception (14 digs, 1 error, 29% excellent). Russian Arina Fedorovtseva scored 23 points (four aces) for Fenerbahçe. Meryem Boz had four blocks.

France’s Volley Mulhouse Alsace and Romania’s C.S.M. Târgoviște earned their first wins in the group stage, the former in Pool A and the latter in Pool E.
