After a decisive 0-3 win in the first leg match last week, Savino Del Bene Scandicci faced off against Turkish team THY Istanbul in the second leg match of the CEV Cup. Despite losing 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-10) in today’s match, Scandicci advanced to the Finals.
Scandicci needed to win two sets to secure their spot in the Finals, and they did just that by winning the fourth set. The match was marked by impressive kill blocks, with Scandicci making 18 out of the total 28 block points, while THY Istanbul made 10.
For the winning side, Hanna Orthmann led the way with 27 points (47% attack, 3 blocks), followed closely by Madison Kingdon Rishel with 23 points (47% attack, 2 aces). On the opposing side, Zhu Ting was the top scorer with 27 points (53% attack, 3 block points), and Ekaterina Antropova added 24 points for Scandicci (35% attack, 3 aces, and 4 block points).
Scandicci’s opponent in the Finals will be determined by tomorrow’s match between C.S.M. Targoviste and CS Volei Alba Blaj, with Alba Blaj currently leading 0-3 from the first match. Despite today’s loss, Scandicci’s impressive performance in the first leg match secured their spot in the Finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2023.
