Wednesday night’s CEV Champions League quarter-final matches were a showcase of Italian dominance, with Cucine Lube Civitanova, Itas Trentino, and Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza all securing victories over their opponents in their encounters.
Cucine Lube Civitanova overcame Halkbank Aankara with a score of 3-1. Luciano De Cecco of Cucine Lube Civitanova was named the match’s MVP, while Nimir Abdel-Aziz from Halkbank emerged as the top scorer with 27 points. On the winning side the most effective were Alex Nikolov and Marlon Yant, each contributing 17 points for Civitanova.
Itas Trentino displayed a masterclass by sweeping Berlin Recycling Volleys 3-0. The Italian team’s skillful play, highlighted by Daniel Lavia’s 21 points and Alessandro Michieletto’s 19 points, left the German team with no response, setting the stage for Trentino’s advance to the semi-finals.
The evening concluded with a thrilling five-set match between Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza and Jastrzębski Węgiel, ending in a 3-2 victory for Piacenza. Ricardo Lucarelli led Piacenza with 24 points, contributing significantly to the team’s comeback after losing the first set.
