After outclassing C.S. Arcada Galați from Romania at home, two weeks ago, by a 3-0, ACH Volley Ljubljana played with the nerves of their fans in the rematch of the 2018 CEV Cup – 8th finals since their rival gained a 2-1 lead, which means they needed to take one more set to extend the game to the golden set.
Despite winning the opening set, the fact that ACH Volley trailed by 7 in it showed the defending champions of Slovenia will have a difficult task to eliminate Arcada. Ultimately, the players coached by Zoran Kedačič got a grip and tied at 2-2, playing the tie-break pro forma as this result already secured them a berth in the quarterfinals in which they will face the European giants Belogorie Belgorod.
Belogorie made another sweep of an Israeli side Hapoel Mate-Asher Akko. The coach of the Russian team, Aleksandr Kosarev, gave the rest to their best scorer Dmitriy Muserskiy while other stars of the team, like Sergey Tetyukhin, Maksim Zhigalov, and Sergey Grankin, played two sets at most. The Bulgarian Nikolay Nikolov topped Belogorie with 12 points of which 5 points were blocks.
