The 2017 CEV U17 European Championship winners Italy swept Ukraine in Pool 2 in Púchov, Slovakia by a 3-0, partially 25-17, 25-22, 25-15, thanks to 20 points from Tommaso Stefani, an outside hitter from the country’s Division 2 side Club Italia Crai Roma.
In the same pool, Russia beat one of the two co-hosts Slovakia by a 3-0 while Belgium stunned France by a 3-1 with 17 points from outside hitter Seppe Rotty.
In Pool 1 in Zlín, Czech Republic, Germany national team downed Bulgaria by a 3-0 (25-17, 30-28, 25-18) thanks to Simon Pfretzschner, who delivered 19 points. Czechs beat Greece in three, while Turkey outplayed Belarus in four sets. The opposite Kaan Gürbüz and middle blocker Ahmet Tümer scored 16 points apiece for Turkey. Dzmitry Dyleusky made as much as 8 kill blocks for Belarus.
