POOL A
Latvia will face Kosovo for the second time in four days in Pool A. As the hosts in Round 3, the Baltic country scored a comfortable 3-0 victory in Daugavpils, leaving Kosovo at 8 points in the second set, which pushed them to the top of Pool A with a maximum 9 points and a 3-0 record.
An experienced outside hitter Toms Vanags was the only player in double digits for Latvia in this match. The fact that their best scorer in the tournament Edvarts Buivids did not play against Kosovo at all shows how dominant Latvia were in this game. Kosovo won only one set in the 2018 CEV Silver European League so far.
Former Y.R. of Macedonia (3 points) will try to take revenge on Austria (6 points) for a 3-1 defeat in the last round when these two meet in Amstetten. Just like in that match, a shooter’s showdown of Macedonian Nikola Gjorgiev, the first scorer of the tournament with 61 points, and Austrian Paul Buchegger, the third best scorer with 55 points, is expected tomorrow. Four days ago, Gjorgiev scored 18 points, while Buchegger made 16.
POOL B
In Pool B. The leaders Croatia (9 points, 3-0) will play the hosts Hungary (no points, 0-3) in Kazincbarcika. Another impressive display of Leo Andrić, the second best scorer of the tournament with 57 points, is expected.
„There are a lot of young players in our squad but I see positive signs in defense and attack and I think this is a good way to go. I apologize to Hungarian fans for a bad start. We will do our best to play Croatia at the highest level against. A support from the fans would encourage us more and would mean a lot to us in the game,“ Hungary head coach Bogdan Tănase.
Second-placed Belarus (6 points) will travel to Tirana to face Albania (third-placed with 3 points).
