Tricolorul LMV Ploiești missed their first chance to win the title in the 2017/18 Divizia A1 as they lost to CS Arcada Galați, their nearest followers in the standings, on the road in four sets, partially 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18.

Ploiești started to the match of the penultimate round of the playoff stage against Arcada by having four points more on their account compared to the rivals (74 – 70) and claiming one point today would mathematically secure them a title.

But, thanks to the former Serbia national team member Nikola Kovačević, who scored 14 points, and 5 kill blocks from the Brazilian Lucas Rangel, Arcada prevailed and came to one point from Ploiești. The Saint Lucian international Julian Bissette scored 16 points for the losing side, including 8 kill blocks!

Ploiești will face defending champions ACS Volei Municipal Zalău in the last round and need to win at least two points to get crowned national champions. As for Arcada, they will play SCMU Craiova.
