ISR M: Hapoel Mate Asher new Israeli champions, tying record for national title wins

Hapoel Mate Asher Akko won their fifth Israeli men’s volleyball Premier League title in six years.

The top-seed Hapoel Mate Asher Akko completed the 2017/18 Premier League playoff finals against the defending champs and also No.3 Maccabi Tel Aviv by a 3-0.

Hapoel Mate Asher Akko prevailed in Game 3 in straight sets, partially 25-22, 25-23, 26-24. Previous two games ended by a 3-0 and 3-2 in favor of Hapoel, respectively, who clinched their 10th double crown (national league and national cup) in the club history. Furthermore, Hapoel Mate Asher Akko tied Premier League record for title wins, held by Hapoel Hama’apil (merged with Hapoel Hadera in 2011 and now play under the name Hapoel Menashe Hadera Emek Hefer), at 14.

The Brazilian opposite Renato Adornelas topped the winning side in Game 3 with 13 points. His compatriot, also opposite, Leonardo Santos scored 12 points for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
