WCH 2018 W: Mexico took one set to Brazil; USA smashed Turkey

Brazil and USA are with new wins at the FIVB World Championship in Japan.

Brazil

Brazil are still in a difficult position because they have 5-2 and 16 points while Japan with one match less, have 5-1 and 15 points. Especially because they lost one set from Mexico and nearly the second set before they turned it around. 

After they lost the first set Tandara Caixeta led Brazil to a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-13, 25-19) victory. She scored a match-high 25 points while Gabi Guimaraes 15 points in the win, while Drussyla Costa contributed 14. On the Mexican side, Andrea Rangel finished with 23 points followed by Melanie Parra 17 points.

The Brazil attack and block coalesced in the third and fourth sets to produce the victory.

In Pool F, USA scored one more important victory. They smashed Turkey in three sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-18) to stayed undefeated with 7-0.

Kelly Murphy led the team with 12 points and got help from Jordan Larson who added 10 points. In the Turkish team, Zehra Gunes scored 9 points and Meliha Ismailoglu 7 points.

Serbia – Germany 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-20)

Brazil – Mexico 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-19)

Netherlands – Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14)

Japan – Puerto Rico 10:20 (12:20 CET)

Standings: Serbia (7-0) 21, Netherlands (7-0) 20, Brazil (5-2) 16, Japan (5-1) 15, Germany (4-3) 11, Dom. Republica (3-4) 10, Puerto Rico (2-4) 6, Mexico (1-6) 3.

Russia – Bulgaria 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19)

USA – Turkey 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18)

China – Azerbaijan 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17)

Italy – Thailand 10:20 (12:20 CET)

Standings: USA (7-0) 19, Italy (6-0) 18, China (6-1) 18, Russia (6-1) 18, Thailand (3-3) 10, Turkey (3-4) 9, Bulgaria (2-5) 6, Azerbaijan (2-5) 6.
