VNL 2019 W: Turkey ruthless against Russia, Japan finish Week 2 with perfect record

Turkey swept Russia in front of own crowd in Ankara on Day 3 of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League – Week 2: 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20).

POOL 6:

Turkey ended a losing streak of four games against Russia in major world tournaments as they beat them at home in Ankara by a 3-0. Thus, Turkey became only the second team to achieve at least 10 straight-set victories in the Nations League’s history (the USA have 14).

The winning side was led on the court by Meryem Boz (25 points/3 kill blocks) and Zehra Güneş (6 kill blocks, 3 aces). Tatiana Iurinskaia scored 15 points for Russia.Turkey have a nearly perfect score after two weeks of the competition (5-1). It is a completely opposite situation for Russia (1-5).

Japan maintained their unbeaten run in Week 2 as they beat Germany in straight sets thanks to Yuki Ishii who scored 14 points. Louisa Lippmann noted one point less on the side of Germany. 

By winning three matches in a row for the first time in the Nations League, Japan annulled a poor display in the first week (0-3). On the other hand, Germany have only one win so far (1-5).

Pool 8 (Apeldoorn, Netherlands):

Poland – Netherlands 3-1 (25-13, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15)

Brazil – Bulgaria 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-18)
