Argentina swept Chinese Taipei in straight sets, partially 25-22, 25-22, and 25-21, at the Coliseo Manuel Bonilla to victoriously open the competition in Pool B. The first two sets were pretty much balanced all the way while in the third, Argentina made a seven-point gap (20-13) and closed it easily. Argentina’s Lucía Fresco scored game-high 16 points, while Candelaria Herrera made as much as 8 kill blocks. Chen Tzu-Ya notched 15 points for Chinese Taipei.
In Pool A, Croatia beat the hosts in a highly intense match in which Peru canceled several match points in the overtime fourth set before eventually succumbing to the European side. Samanta Fabris was unstoppable for Croatia with 24 points, including 5 aces. Karla Ortíz top-scored for Peru with 18 points.
