France cold-bloodedly defeated Argentina, the most pleasant surprise of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men’s volleyball tournament, in the semifinals: 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22). Thus, for the first time in its country’s volleyball history, ’Les Bleus’ will be playing for the Olympic title and, for the first time ever, it will be a medalist.

The fifth French appearance in the Summer Games rose fears of a scenario identical to that of Rio 2016 (elimination after the preliminary stage) because of the rocky start of Laurent Tillie’s wards in the pool. However, France will play the decider against the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) to which it was carried today by Trévor Clévenot (14 points, 72.2 % reception; 13/18) and Barthélémy Chinenyeze (4 blocks). Facundo Conte scored 13 points for Argentina, while Santiago Danani made 84.6 % reception (11/13).

2020 Tokyo Olympics men’s volleyball tournament – semifinals:

Brazil – ROC 1-3 (25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 23-25)

France – Argentina 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22)
