Hosts Tianjin Bohai Bank started strong at the 2024 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Hangzhou, defeating Egypt’s Zamalek Giza 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-15) in their opening match. Wang Yizhu led the charge with 17 points, while captain Li Yingying added 16 and Chen Boya contributed 15. For Zamalek, Brazilian outside hitter Milca Lubieska da Silva fought hard, scoring 14 points with four aces, but it wasn’t enough to stop Tianjin’s dominant performance.
Italy’s Vero Volley Milano and Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano also impressed on opening day with dominant wins over Brazilian teams. Japan’s NEC Red Rockets also started strong, sweeping Vietnam’s LP Bank Ninh Binh.
Milano cruised past Gerdau Minas 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 27-25), led by Paola Egonu’s 18 points. Despite a second-set push from Minas, Milano held firm, with Egonu and Danesi delivering in key moments.
Conegliano followed with a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) against Dentil Praia. Zhu Ting, Gabi, and Fahr each scored 12 points, while Conegliano’s dominant blocking left Praia struggling.
Meanwhile, NEC Red Rockets swept LP Bank Ninh Binh in straight sets, marking themselves as a team to watch.
