Defending champions Serbia picked up their second win at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship on Monday, sweeping Cameroon 3-0 in Bangkok. But the victory came at a cost as star captain Tijana Bošković limped out in the second set with an ankle injury.
Bošković had already scored six points before exiting. In her absence, outside hitter Aleksandra Uzelac led Serbia with 18 points, while middle blocker Maja Aleksić added 13. Despite the setback, the Serbians cruised to a dominant win (25-16, 25-17, 25-12) to secure a spot in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Japan survived a stunning challenge from Ukraine, rallying from two sets down to win a five-set thriller (25-27, 20-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-11). Captain Mayu Ishikawa shone with 29 points, powering her team’s comeback.
With these results, both Serbia and Japan have qualified for the knockout stage, while Ukraine and Cameroon are set to exit after pool play.
