
Türkiye achieved a milestone victory at the Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Thailand, overcoming the United States 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23) in the quarterfinals to advance to their first-ever semifinal.
The Turkish team opened the match in dominant fashion, controlling the first set with powerful attacks and a strong block. Although the Americans fought back to win the second set, Türkiye quickly regained momentum. With precise serving, sharp defense, and relentless offense, they stormed through the third set before holding their nerve in a tight fourth to close out the match.
Ebrar Karakurt led all scorers with 22 points, while Melissa Vargas added 20, including the final attacks that sealed the win. Team captain Eda Erdem was a defensive force, finishing with 13 points, seven of them from blocks. On the American side, Sarah Franklin scored 12 points, while Avery Skinner, Stephanie Samedy, and Dana Rettke each contributed 11.

The victory continues Türkiye’s rapid rise on the world stage. After winning the European Championship in 2023 and reaching the Olympic semifinals in 2024, they now stand one step away from a historic World Championship medal. Türkiye will face Japan in the semifinal on September 6.
