Bangkok, Thailand – The Women’s Volleyball World Championship semifinal lineup is taking shape, and one of the biggest clashes is now confirmed: Italy will face Brazil on September 6.
Brazil punched their ticket with a 3-0 win over France, though the match was tighter than the score suggests. The French side, who had stunned China earlier in the tournament, pushed hard in the opening two sets but fell just short at 27-25 and 33-31. In the end, Brazil’s stars delivered, with Júlia Bergmann scoring 17 points, Gabi Guimarães adding 13, and Rosamaria Montibeller contributing 12.
For France, Héléna Cazaute led with 20 points, supported by Iman Ndiaye (15) and Amélie Rotar (10). Despite defeat, the team leaves the tournament with pride, marking their first World Championship appearance since 1974.
Italy, meanwhile, cruised past Poland in straight sets and remain unbeaten since June 2024. The Azzurre now have the chance to avenge their 2022 semifinal loss to Brazil, when Ze Roberto’s squad denied them a shot at the world title.
With Japan already through and the final spot awaiting the winner of USA vs Türkiye, anticipation is building. Italy vs Brazil promises to be a true classic—an encounter of history, rivalry, and redemption.
