Bulgaria Earns First VNL Win with Straight-Sets Victory over Iran

Bulgaria recorded first victory in the 2026 Volleyball Nations League, defeating Iran in straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) in Brasília, Brazil.

After opening the tournament with a loss to Belgium, the team coached by Gianlorenzo Blengini responded with a composed and efficient performance. Bulgaria edged a closely contested first set before taking control of the match.

Aleksandar Nikolov led Bulgaria’s victory with 24 points, while Aleks Grozdanov added 11 and Asparuh Asparuhov contributed eight. For Iran, Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh and Ali Hajipour were the top scorers with 11 points each.
