In the Group 3 finals of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix, in Canberra, Hungary left no hope to the Final Four hosts Australia, seeing them off with a straight-set win, partially 25-18, 25-17, 25-20, and secured playing Group 2 next year, but by the old rule of the International Volleyball Federation. The new rule says – only Group 1 will exist in 2018.

Thus, Hungary won the second gold medal in the history of their senior volleyball, after grabbing the 2015 CEV European League, and showed they will be tough rivals to everyone at the upcoming CEV European Championship in Azerbaijan and Georgia, in September.

Gréta Szakmáry topped Hungarian ladies with 21 points while Rachel Rourke had 15 in Australia.

The match for the third place was not held as Venezuelan NT definitely did not arrive at Canberra and got forfeited in both Final Four games. So, France claimed the bronze medal.
