“We need to start the match better, we must learn this. For the first one and a half sets things didn’t work out for us. Maybe we experienced physical difficulties, or maybe, it was because many of my players took part in the final tournament of this type of competition for the first time in their career,” the Belgian expert explained what was going on with his protégés in the match against Russia.

“The Volleyball League of Nations is something new. We came here to try to win, resist rivals, but also to learn something. I saw that the boys were nervous, but it is normal. ‘Zbornaya’ is a very good team, complete. They returned Maksim Mikhailov and Artem Volvich. Nothing would change even if Mikhailov wasn’t in the roster because both Russian outside hitters are of the highest class. For us, a performance in Lille is a huge experience. In the second and the third set, we played well,” Heynen added.

Poland will face the USA in their last Pool B match, today at 18:00 C.E.T.
