Since the end of the last season Iraklis is playing only with Greek players while another four have left the group. Iraklis set the pace twice in the game (1:0, and 2:1) and had the chance to finish it off in the fourth set but missed out on this opportunity. Their opponents showed great determination and could stretch the game to the tie-break where Iraklis eventually had the upper hand at 16-14 for a 3:2 home victory (25-20, 16-25, 25-23, 20-25, and 16-14).
Olga Strantzali paced Iraklis in their winning effort with 23 points while Serbian Brankica Nikić top scored for RETHYMNO with 18. The game was attended by many people including the Vice President of the Hellenic Volleyball Federation, Constantinos Psaroudakis, who is also the chairman of the Volleyball club from Rethymno.
“Our opponents played better than we expected because we had scouted a video of their previous game with A.O. MARKOPOULO and there they had not showed this level. I have to congratulate their players because they made it hard for us and could not finish the game in the fourth set” commented Iraklis head coach Kostas Ioannidis. “We felt the pressure in the tie-break but everything ended well for us because we won the game.”
