GRE W: Olympiacos Completes Stunning Comeback, Beats Panathinaikos 3-2

Olympiacos fought back from two sets down to defeat Panathinaikos 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 15-13) at the Melina Mercouri Indoor Hall in Renti in the 19th round derby of the Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Despite trailing 0-2, the “red-and-whites” reacted strongly and turned the match around in the tie-break, led by an outstanding Milica Kubura. The Serbian opposite delivered a remarkable 39-point performance, finishing with 35/67 attacks, two aces and two blocks.

After narrowly losing the first two sets (23-25, 22-25), Olympiacos raised its level significantly. The team of Branko Kovacevic dominated the third set (25-18) with improved attacking efficiency and strong serving, while in the fourth set took full control to win 25-14 and level the match at 2-2.

In the decisive fifth set, Olympiacos built a solid lead and reached match point at 14-8. Panathinaikos responded with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 14-13, but Kubura sealed the victory at 15-13 to complete the comeback.

Olympiacos finished the match with eight aces, 79 attack points and 11 blocks. Amanda Coneo scored 15 points, Yasmine Abderrahim added 14, and Jovana Stevanovic contributed 13.
