This was quite a strange night in the 2019/20 Italian Men’s Volleyball Championship regular season...

Lube-vs-Trentino

Lube-vs-Trentino

Round 23 of the 2019/20 SuperLega Credem Banca regular season was marked by a lot of chaotic moments. A derby between fierce rivals Cucine Lube Civitanova and Itas Trentino should have been in the spotlight but it wasn’t.

Just when the curtain was raised in the competition after it was temporarily suspended due to coronavirus outbreak in the country, it was put down again on some of the courts. The match between the home side of Allianz Milano and Kioene Padova was canceled although the players of both teams were in the locker room preparing to enter the court. The reason was that symptoms of fever were determined in some of the players of Milano (it wasn’t specified in which ones) on the mandatory screening. Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora didn’t come to the match against Gas Sales Piacenza and the latter will win by a forfeit.

Now, let’s get back to a derby. Just like in the semifinals of the national Cup, Lube came back from 0-2 to 3-2 against Trentino! With a win, the titleholders remained at the top of the charts. The match was held without spectators. Cuban-Brazilian Yoandy Leal tallied 25 points for Lube, while Serbian Uroš Kovačević scored 24 points for the losing side.

Leo Shoes Modena kept breathing down the neck of Lube in the standings after recording a 3-1 win over Vero Volley Monza.
