Mencarelli’s team which wants to impress its rivals with the two 202 cm tall young girls faced the Japanese renowned for their fast play.

The Asians were leading the first set with only few points to their advantage when the Italians bounced back at 20-21 and closed the first round at 21-25.

The Japanese increased the pressure when they put their opponents in a position of doubt by leading the first half of the second set and after a hard work won it by 27-25. The third set (25-21) was relatively easy to win for Japan thanks to the numerous errors on the Italian side (26 vs. 10 for the other team).

The Italians redressed the match in the fourth set which a score of 21-25. However, the Japanese defeat their rivals in the last set 15-13.

If the Italians had made less direct mistakes (33 in total), they could have won their first game.
