For the second match in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League head coach Roberto Serniotti lined up the same starting six that had starred in the first match of the Italian national league on Sunday, with Giacomo Sintini as starting setter for US American and two-time Olympian Donald Suxho, who is still nursing a knee injury. The first set showed the supremacy of the hosts who started the match very strong (7:3) with Filippo Lanza who registered 5 points all alone in that section of the game. The home team stayed much focused and controlled the game both in the first (25-16) and second set (25-15) where the story followed a plot very similar to that of the first one. The quality and supremacy of Trentino was evident also in the early phases of the third set (4:1), but then the Swiss underdogs showed great resistance and surprised the home side (12:12) so that the set was played point for point up to a tie at 23 before the Italians finished the job at 25-23 with a block by their captain Emanuele Birarelli.

The Italians delivered an impressive performance with their blocks (12 points) and offence (51% of efficiency for the team); Lugano made mistakes from the start up to the end of the game and suffered in reception and in attack as well. The Argentine middle blocker Sebastian Solé (see picture) was named MVP of the match with 86% of efficiency in attack (9 points, 3 blocks). Noteworthy were also the performances of wing-spiker Filippo Lanza (11 points) and the stellar command of Trentino setter Sintini. On the other side of the net Italian spiker Mariano Romolo (8 points) was the only remarkable player in this losing effort for the Swiss national champions who last week had upset Arkas Izmir at home.
