Allianz Milano confirmed the signing of highly rated Belgian opposite Basil Dermaux ahead of the new SuperLega season.
Dermaux joins from Knack Roeselare after emerging as one of the top young players in European volleyball. The 22-year-old collected consecutive Belgian “Player of the Year” awards and gained international attention with impressive performances in the CEV Champions League.
The powerful opposite was one of the standout players of the competition, highlighted by a sensational 39-point display against Halkbank Ankara. He also played a key role in Roeselare’s run to the Belgian league finals before the club fell to Greenyard Maaseik in the championship series.
Dermaux sees the move to Italy as a major step in his development.
“I want to push myself and grow even more as a player,” Dermaux said. “The Italian league is the highest level, and I’m excited for the challenge.”
The Belgian international reportedly had offers from other European clubs, including Poland, but chose Milan as the best fit for his career progression. Reuniting with former teammate Seppe Rotty also helped influence his decision.
Dermaux is expected to become an important part of Allianz Milano’s new project under incoming coach Guillermo Falasca.
