Japan men’s V.league: Dream start of Panthers in F6, Omrčen’s 40 pts. not enough for Trefuerza to beat champs

Panasonic Panthers began Final Six stage of the V.Premier League 2017/18 with two wins worth three points to settle at the top of the standings.

Panasonic Panthers scored two three-point worth wins in the Final 6 of the V.Premier League in only two days and now have 11 points (6 points + 5 points according to the tournament rules) at the top of the standings.

After beating defending champions Toray Arrows yesterday by a 3-0, the Panthers prevailed against JTEKT Stings in four sets, partially 25-23, 23-25, 30-28, 25-12, today.

Kunihiro Shimizu and Michał Kubiak collected 22 points apiece for the winning side. The Polish star made 5 aces. Yuji Nishida topped Stings with 25 points. The Bulgarian Matey Kaziyski added 4 aces (20 points).

Toray Arrows beat Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza by a 3-2 but remained the third-placed, one spot below today’s rivals. The Canadian Gavin Schmitt poured in 35 points (3 aces) for the titleholders. The Croatian Igor Omrčen tallied 40 points (4 kill blocks, 3 serves) for Trefuerza.
