Japan men’s V.League: Panthers seize national title despite grand defiance of Trefuerza in Game 2 of finals

Panasonic Panthers won the Japanese men’s volleyball championship V.Premier League 2017/18 finals by a 2-0 in the series to become the new titleholders.

Panasonic Panthers won Game 2 of the V. League 2017/18 finals against Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza by a 3-2 (19-25, 25-16, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13) in front of 5,641 spectators at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium (capacity: 10,000 seats) to clinch the national title for the sixth time in the club history, the first time in four years.

Both teams were weakened in the finals. The Panthers could not count on opposite Kunihiro Shimizu, who got injured a month ago, while Trefuerza were deprived of help from the Croatian Igor Omrčen.

The Pole Michał Kubiak was the best scorer of the Panthers in a decisive Game 2 with 24 points, Tatsuya Fukuzawa added 20 points. As for Trefuerza, who lost their second straight V.League finals, Takuya Takamatsu scored 31 points.
