Cuba outplayed the defending champions USA after five sets and surprised everyone. Diaris Perez Ramos, Regla Rainierys Gonzalez and Sulian Matienzo Linares led Cuba with 15 points each, although American players scored many more points than opponents: Simone Lee 18, Aiyana Whitney 17, Haleigh Washington 16, Adora Anae 14, Chiaka Ogbogu 10.
Colombia and Brazil also played five sets but “Yellow-green” girls won. Bruna Honorio da Silva and Thaisa Daher Menezes led Brazil with 22 and 20 points, while Amanda Coneo was the best Colombian with 16 points followed by Maria Margarita Martinez with 13.
Another interesting was between Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Rico. Puerto Ricans led 2-0 in the sets and finished the match in the tie-break. Noami Santos Lamb and Shirley Ferrer Fontanez scored 20 and 15 points, while Krystle Esdelle led all the players in the match with 23 points in the losing cause while Channon Thompson (19), Sinead Jack (14) and Jalicia Ross (13) also reached double figures for Trinidad & Tobago.
Mexico celebrated the first ever win over Argentina in the highest level. Samantha Bricio and Andrea Rangel each had 12 points for Mexico while Paula Yamila Nizetich and Julieta Lazcano Colodrero scored 7 points each for Argentina.
Canada demolished Costa Rica to stay undefeated in Pool A. Once again Kiera Van Ryk played a stellar role in the offense of Canada by blasting a tournament-high 9 aces among her 14 points.
