ARG M: Gigantes stun reigning champs UPCN at start of playoffs

The 2018/19 Liga de Vóleibol Argentina (Argentine men’s volleyball league) playoff began with a major upset as the 6th seed Gigantes Del Sur prevailed over reigning champions UPCN San Juan Voley Club (No.3).

UPCN fell to Gigantes in Game 1 of Liga de Vóleibol Argentina best-of-five playoff quarterfinals at home, endangering their chances of defending the national title. Cuban Miguel Ángel López highlighted Gigantes’ comeback from two sets down with 25 points while Luciano Zornetta made 77% reception (35 digs, 1 error). Pole Zbigniew Bartman totaled 24 points for UPCN.

Top seed Bolívar Voley (Lucas Ocampo and Jan Martínez 10 points each, Pablo Crer 5 kill blocks) and No.4 Libertad Burgi Vóley (Kay van Dijk 15 points) easily skipped their obstacles at the start of the playoffs.
