Dr. Djordje Stefanovic, Dean of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, presented the honorary degree to Mr. Boricic. “We have put forward the motion for the assignment of this academic position to Mr. Boricic because he has dedicated all his life to sports and the results he has achieved are really extraordinary. He is the perfect example for all those who practice sports in any way. His impact and influence on the future generations are immense” said Dr. Stefanovic.
“This acknowledgment means a lot, especially as it came from the highest academic sports institution in our country. This goes to our sports in general, because the team spirit which is essential for team sports, i.e. the branch I am predominantly involved in, gives us the lesson that in order to achieve something you need the help and support from your teammates. I am sure that my colleagues from the Volleyball family across the country feel that this is also their own success and that they will be proud of our sport as I am today” said Mr. Boricic.
The “Djurdjevi Stupovi” choir performed the national anthem of Serbia and the students’ anthem “Gaudeamus igitur” – which is also the official anthem of FISU, the International University Sports Federation – at the beginning of ceremony. Prof. Dr. Nada Kovacevic, Pro-rector of the University of Belgrade, was also there to welcome and address the many guests in attendance.
Dr. Goran Nesic, Ph. D. in Physical Education and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, during a ten-minute presentation introduced Mr. Boricic to the audience by presenting his sporting results and professional achievements.
On the same occasion, the best students and professors were also awarded for their accomplishments and results. Miljan Grbovic, physical trainer of the men’s Volleyball national team of Serbia, received a special award after working at the Faculty for the past 30 years.
