The seven-time national champions UPCN San Juan Voley Club still did not feel the sweet taste of victory in the 2019/20 Liga Argentina de Voleibol regular season (0-3). They were beaten by Gigantes del Sur at home by a 3-2 (25-20, 18-25, 26-24, 24-26, 15-12) in the penultimate match of Weekend 2. Actually, UPCN have won their first point in the season!
What can justify such a bad start to the season is the injury of their main attacking power, Bulgarian Nikolay Uchikov. He is recovering from the contracture of the shoulder and still don make his debut in the competition. Bruno Lima top-scored for Gigantes with 29 points, while 39-year-old veteran middle blocker Javier Sánchez made 5 kill blocks. Cuban Miguel Ángel López poured in 25 points for UPCN. Maximiliano Gauna set up 6 kill blocks. Just like UPCN, the vice-champions Obras de San Juan cannot catch a breath. The are second-to-last in the standings with 0-3 as and one point as well.
Surprisingly, River Plate hold the top spot in the charts with 4-0 and will enter Weekend 3 with the status of the league’s leaders.
