Caltex prevailed in the playoff finals of the 2020/21 Korean Dodram V-League against Pink Spiders and wrote the history of the country’s professional women’s volleyball as the first-ever team to claim ‘triple crown’ (national Cup, league regular season, and league).
The Seoul club dethroned Pink Spiders in the league by winning the final series by a 3-0. Caltex downed rivals in Game 3 in the tie-break, partially – 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, and 15-7. American Merete Lutz was superb on the winning side, pouring in 37 points. She and her teammate, also a captain, Lee So-Young were tied in voting for MVP and shared the award. Kim Yeon-Koung tallied 27 points for the Pink Spiders.
Caltex have reached the gold medal in the championship for the third time, the first time in 7 years (2007/08, 2013/14, 2020/21). Losing the final left a bitter taste for the Pink Spiders, who faced a scandal in February in which the Lee sisters were involved and had to play without them ever since.
