Hylte/Halmstad is the first club to seize all 4 major championship-related titles in Swedish volleyball (the first division is played since 1961) in one season, meaning trophies in the Grand Prix (top 4 clubs from the league competing in the mid-season tournament) and Swedish Elitserien in both the women’s and men’s competition.
It all happened in just two days. First, in the women’s playoff final, Hylte/Halmstad swept the series against the defending champions Engelholm, closing it with a 3-2 (25-19, 25-27, 28-26, 15-25, 15-9) win in Game 2, at home, in which Hanna Hellvig scored 23 points and Klara Andersson made 79 % reception (24 digs, 1 error, 54 % perfect).
The next day, the guys from Hylte/Halmstad prevailed in the playoff final series against Falkenberg with a 2-0, beating the fiercest rivals in straight sets in the 2nd match, partially 25-17, 25-18, and 25-22. Legendary opposite hitter (2013 CEV Champions League MVP and Best Scorer) Marcus Nilsson stood out on the winning side with 18 points. Philip Pettersson set up 5 blocks, while American Michael Michelau made 75 % reception (12 digs, 25 % perfect).
Not only that Hylte/Halmstad entered the history of the country’s volleyball with ‘quadruple crown’ but they brought men’s and women’s Elitserien crown for the same association for the first time in 33 years. The last time when any club managed to achieve such a feat – which was achieved only 5 times in the history of Swedish volleyball – before Hylte/Halmstad was Sollentuna in 1987/88.
