Jan-Stokr
At the age of 38, the legendary Czech player Štokr retired from playing volleyball. “It’s a difficult decision to close some part of life after 21 years. I don’t even know exactly how to say it… it’s just time to end. Although I can’t say if it’s a completely final decision, no one knows, but it seemed to me that leaving, even at the top, is good, rather than someone spitting on me and saying that I’m old and that I don’t get the game anymore,” the opposite hitter stated.
By winning the polls for Best Czech Volleyball Player of the Year 4 times, Štokr became one of the country’s legends of this sport. He played over 150 matches in the Czech National Team. Štokr gained the greatest fame in Italy, in the Itas Trentino jersey. In 2011, he won the CEV Champions League, twice became the champion of the prestigious Italian league, and experienced a triumph at the FIVB Club World Championship three times.
Individually, Štokr was named one-time MVP of the Italian Championship and Italian Super Cup each, and one-time Best Spiker of the FIVB Club World Championship. The last club in Štokr’s career was VK Dukla Liberec in his home country, for which he played since 2017.
