In Friday’s semifinals, Guatemala will play Nicaragua while El Salvador will meet Costa Rica.
Guatemala 3, Panama 1
Guatemala defeated Panama 3-1 (25-13, 25-13, 22-25, 25-19) to reach the semifinals. The winners dominated with better blocking (10-5) and service points (6-4). Blanca Recinos led Guatemala’s offense with 24 points and Rut Gomez contributed with 17. Joanna Arroyo topped Panama with 13 tallies.
“We struggled to beat Panama, they battled hard pressing with their serves causing us difficulties in our passing” said Diana Arias, Guatemala’s captain.
El Salvador 3, Honduras 1
El Salvador entered the women’s volleyball semifinal following a dramatic 3-1(25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 27-25) victory over Honduras. El Salvador held a huge margin in service points 13-5.
Adriana Flores led her team’s victory with 21 points followed by Denisse Rogel and María José Galeano with 16 and 14 respectively. Maria Barahona topped Honduras with 13 points. “We are excited to be in the semifinal, we stayed focused even when we were down in the fourth” said Adriana Flores, El Salvador’s captain.
