The players from Bulgaria caught a good start and claimed the first set but could not resist to the terrific comeback of their opponents who did sweep set 2 and 3 to move to the front. Bulgaria got back on track in the fourth set but eventually lost their opening match of the competition at the tie-break. “It was a very difficult game and it is not easy to play five sets. However, it is really good that we started out with a victory. I do not know what’s next in the tournament but for the time being I am very happy and congratulate my players on their performance today” said Romanian head coach Marian Constantin.
“It was a tough game, especially to open the tournament. Bulgaria is a good and strong team but I think we showed more motivation and willingness to win. I hope the next game will be good for us too” added team captain Diana-Ioana Calota.
Bulgaria’s Elitsa Vasileva top scored in the game with 32 points while Romania was paced by the trio consisting of Daiana Muresan (18), Alina Ilie (16) and Ioana Nemtanu (14).
