On Saturday Slovakia stormed back from two sets down to edge Turkey at ERGO Arena 3:2 (18-25, 16-25, 25-20, 25-21, and 19-17) to get the right edge as they vie for a spot in the Playoffs of the VELUX EuroVolley 2013. On Sunday Slovakia will play hosts Poland to complete their duties in the prelims. Juraj Zatko – together with Milan Bencz – was among the players who chiefly contributed to Slovakia’s come-from-behind victory over Turkey.

Zatko is overwhelmed with joy as he speaks about the conditions he found in Gdansk:

“Poland is really the right country for Volleyball as your fans love the game like none else in the world. The organization of the tournament is simply great and everything is perfect”.

The first couple of days of the Championship have provided a few major surprises, so it has become very difficult to predict who will finish on top in the end.

“Everything changes so quickly and it is difficult to make any predictions. I think that none could expect Russia would lose their first game to Germany in straight sets. However, I still feel like Russia, Italy, Poland, and Serbia will be fighting for the medals in the end”.

After winning against Turkey, Slovakia has got good chances to make it to the Playoffs but the guys mentored by Stefan Chrtiansky will first play Poland on Sunday.

“We simply would like to enjoy the game, to play without feeling any pressure or stress” Zatko says. “There is nothing we shall worry about for we have no pressure heading into this match. This will give us wings similarly to what happened in the game with Turkey. We knew we were almost out and as we realized this, we started performing much better and eventually won. Maybe something like this will happen also in our match with Poland. Would be great to win this match before a crowd of more than 10,000” he continues.

After the EuroVolley comes to a close, Zatko will stay in Poland for this coming season he is set to play for Politechnika Warszawska.

“I am very excited about this opportunity and this is a dream that comes true. I was very happy to be informed that I was transferred to Poland and look forward to the start of this adventure”.
