The club leaps on a new orientation to re-position itself among the top European clubs that is now beginning to take shape. As a first step, the club appointed Belgian coach Jan José de Brandt, who coached several club teams in Spain, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

De Brandt also did an excellent job nurturing talents on the Belgian national and elite levels wherein his team developed from a spontaneously assembled new team into a European volleyball force that is able to hold its own in the long run.

With this principle in mind, de Brandt had to find the right players in the squad – sort of putting together each piece of the puzzle to create a solid lineup.

The eight-time Swiss champion and cup winner will count on 37-year-old Croatian player Natasa Osmokrovic, who was part of Turkish club Fenerbahce that won the Club World Championship in 2010. Osmokrovic raked in individual honours in the 2011 season as she was named Most Valuable Player, Best Scorer, Best Spiker and Best Receiver with club team Rabita Baku.

“The club team Volero Zürich and its attractive programme, especially its participation at the Club World Championship in October convinced me not to finish my career,” Osmokrovic said on her commitment to the club. “After many years of friendship, I am pleased to finally be able to use my experience here in Zürich.”

Volero Zürich will also count on the experience of Serbian middle blocker Mira Golubovic and Japanese libero Yuko Sano who were tapped to reinforce Volero Zürich’s defence. Golubovic will return to Volero Zürich since her stint with the club in the 2006-2007 season. Sano, who had a prolific club career as a libero and won countless individual honours for the different European clubs, will bring her expertise in the Swiss side.

With good experience on their side, Volero Zürich leave a promising mark to challenge the world’s premier clubs.
